Jan van Schoonhoven

Mr. Jan van Schoonhoven is senior advisor to the Netherlands Government on PPP and International Relations, at the Ministry for Infrastructure and Environment. His main role is to advice the Governments on implementing PPP’s as a strategic tool for attracting Private Funding and enhancing public service He was seconded to the United Nations in Geneva and setup a PPP International Centre of Excellence from 2011-2015. The role of the center was to developed guidelines for Governments in implement PPP’s. He was director of the PPP Unit of the Netherlands (Ministry of Infrastructure 2006-2011) and setup the current PPP framework and dealflow in the Netherlands. From one small project in 2006, the Netherlands now has an extensive PPP program with over 50 projects in PPP a Multi-billion Euro program. He is independent director at the Kazakhstan PPP Center in Astana and Senior Fellow at IISD. He is also a consultant at the World Bank on PPP and gives regular trainings to Governments in understanding PPP’s. Together with the UN and WB he organizes meetings and assessment to bring the public and private sector together. He started his career as a Naval Officer in the Royal Netherlands Navy.
